Material experiment

One day, as I watched the shadows on a shoji screen change and shift over time, I felt a subtle Japanese beauty—and realized that we perceive time by observing change. The outside scenery cast in shadow was very emotional, deep and rich. Long ago, when shoji screens were common in Japan, people felt the passage of time through the shapes and movements of the shadows on their screens. I wondered if I could strengthen this emotional expression of light and shadow, and I achieved this by giving them form. By building a 3D matte surface and projecting shadows of different patterns and materials onto it from behind, I discovered the simple beauty of creating 3D lights and shadows
